After countless hits, accolades, producer credits, major life events and five children, Bee Gee’s rock star Barry Gibb is in the midst of his first-ever solo tour and shows no signs of slowing down. “Having lost all my brothers and dealing with that factor of life, the idea of seizing life is now more important than anything else,” Gibb said in an exclusive interview with Sidelines.

While most people are familiar with the state capital’s famous moniker, relatively few realize what being “Music City” actually means for Nashville. The city reigns as one of the top three locations for the music industry in the country, as it cuts records and creates cash flow. According to a study by the Nashville Area Chamber of Commerce Research Center, Nashville’s music industry brings almost $10 billion in annual revenue from Nashville’s metropolitan statistical area, which spans 14 counties.

When the second weekend in June rolls around, music junkies from all over the world make the trek to the sleepy city of Manchester to experience the annual Bonnaroo Music and Arts festival.

Designers, models, patrons, volunteers, media and guests from all over celebrated what fashion means to the Nashville community during last week’s annual Nashville Fashion Week. Each night, attendees gathered at various local venues for hors d'oeuvres, cocktails and fresh fashion. Sidelines attended NFW’s opening and closing shows at The Rosewall and Marathon Music Works, along with a show at 5th Avenue.

With MTSU celebrating fashion week, April 8 -12, Sidelines is featuring two textile, merchandising and design majors, whose work will be featured. Ayana Luanglath has been designing her own clothing since she was 6-years-old. Since then she’s known what she’s wanted to do, but when she got married and moved to Tennessee from Binghamton, N.Y., it almost didn’t happen.

For years men have dedicated the month of November to the cultivation of their facial hair. The month has even been dubbed "No Shave November." While modern day guys like to participate in the name of style, comradery or laziness, that was not always the case. “No Shave November” can be traced all the way back to the philosopher Plato, who designated time every year for him and his students to work on their beards.
